Cynthia “Mia” Wilkerson was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. She is a photographer and aspiring advocate. Her journey of having spent over a decade of incarceration in a California prison profoundly transformed her, steering her toward the healing power of art. Mia found her calling in photography within the confines of adversity that through which she captures the essence of resilience and the unexpected beauty of life’s challenges.
Mia is a student at a Cal State University, majoring in psychology. Her academic pursuit is a path to personal growth and a stepping stone towards greater ambition. Mia plans to extend her advocacy by attending Law School to champion social justice issues and provide a voice for the marginalized and silenced within society.
Photography remains a therapeutic outlet for Mia, offering her a way to document and reflect on the world around her. She explores themes of hardship, redemption, and the enduring human spirit. Her art is a call to action, urging a reevaluation of the societal challenges and injustices that she has overcome.
