Zerecero
Zer Ghoul (Erick Zerecero) is a marine scientist and artist. He was born in Mexico City and raised in South Bay, LA. His photography specializes on black and white portraits and underground documentary.
Currently most of his work focuses in documenting the LA Goth Scene and Punk. Both punk and goth scenes inspire him because they are highly rooted in depicting their unconformity towards the status quo. Each of them, in their way, through their sounds and lyrics. What he likes the most are the DIY outfits in both scenes, from leather jackets painted with acrylic depicting band logos or quotes against authority to latex masks that shine with every movement a person takes on the dance floor.
Zer Ghoul’s approach to photography is focused on capturing his personal story of underground scenes told through the portraits he captures. He wants to share his impression of the communities he is part of through his lens. He has had the opportunity to take portraits of influential bands in the Goth Scene, such as Twin Tribes, Lebanon Hanover, and She Passed Away, to mention some of them.
Beyond his work as a photographer, Zer Ghoul is dedicated to teaching young scientists to dare to be different and carry their culture and styles into their academic journeys.
